Our Story

Hi! I'm Elise, the founder of BedBrace!

In 2018 I gave birth to my first son, Cade, via an emergency C-section. As C-sections are a major abdominal surgery, my mobility during the recovery and postpartum period was severely limited. One of the most limiting parts of this experience was the transition from lying supine to sitting up in bed. As one can imagine, this transition happens many times a day and night when you have a newborn.

During my hospital stay after the surgery, I had a nurse teach me how to sit up and adjust myself in bed using the railings. This gave me a feeling of empowerment and felt like I was taking back some control with my new found increased mobility and efficiency.

Once discharged to go home, I struggled through recovery without the same structural support around me provided by the hospital bed. Not wanting to experience the same limitations with my second son's birth, I did extensive research to find a mobility assistance product to purchase that mimicked a hospital bed rail system which was temporary, versatile and where I would be fully supported on both sides of my body during movement. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful and thus began my original design and concept for BedBrace.

On my journey, I realized the lack of diversity among bed rail and assistance products. All generic bed rails are installed on the side of the bed which force the user to twist and engage in an awkward position. Our design allows the user to engage and feel supported equally on both sides as they maneuver from supine to upright position. Because our rails are on either side of the user, it also makes our product universal for bed placement. The user can be on the left, right or directly in the middle of their bed! Whichever they prefer!

Thank you for your support! We hope to join you on your mobility journey!
